Slot Machine Mentality

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

Today I will address the slot machine mentality approach to online business building. What is the slot machine mentality? See if this describes anyone you know.

One day while in the midst of working a new online program, Jason received an email claiming to have the greatest moneymaking online opportunity ever devised in history. But, he needed to hurry and “get in” quick if he wanted a chance to make the big money. Jason jumped into the program and started promoting away. A couple of days later another email arrived with a newer and faster way to generate income and Jason hopped on that one. This went on for months until Jason had gotten himself into working a dozen different programs and was generating very little money with any of them. Then, as time went on, he dropped those programs and joined into others time and time again. Each time he was expecting this one to pay off and when it didn’t, he abandoned it and got into another. This type of activity is what is known as the slot machine mentality; moving from program to program hoping this one will pay.

This is what tens of thousands of people are doing on the internet. They jump from program to program hoping to get in just the right one at just the right time and get a big payoff for a minimum amount of work. The real generating of sustainable and growing income does not work that way.

You may have heard the term “mlm junkie”? This is the typical mode of operation for an mlm junkie. Always hopping from business to business hoping to hit the big time. They often will say things like I am diversifying and developing multiple streams of income. In reality, most of these people are operating on the slot machine mentality. This mentality is really the result of a lack of focus. You cannot spread your efforts too wide or you will become like water poured on flat glass. Don’t misunderstand what I am trying to say. I am a big believer in Robert Kyosaki’s idea of building multiple businesses. Too often this gets twisted into something totally different than what Kyosaki teaches. The idea with a business is to develop it into a profitable venture. Once that business is a sustainable entity, take some of the profit from that venture and begin to invest in a new business or in appreciating assets.

Let me give you a great example. I know a couple who had a successful real estate business. The profitability of this gave them the opportunity to develop a very big environmental business via the internet and telephone. As a result of all the success from this venture, they developed another business called My Daily Director http://www.mydailydirector.com . My Daily Director is the best time/life management system on the market. It is being used by some extremely huge organizations for whom time management is critical. It is a product you should consider as well. It is composed of pages divided by hours for keeping appointments, but more than that, it is a way to organize the important things in your life like spiritual commitments, family commitments, and of course all your business commitments. It helps you keep first things “first”! I recommend you check it out at http://www.mydailydirector.com A tool like this will definitely help you keep your focus on your main business.

Keep coming back periodically to find my latest business blog. I look forward to the next opportunity to write to you.
